Spine Manipulation Therapy
Practitioners such as Chiropractors perform spinal manipulation by using their hands. The goal of the treatment is to relieve pain and improve physical function.
It's a technique where practitioners ( either Chiropractors or Doctors of Osteopaths)use their hands or a device such as activators to apply a controlled thrust to a joint of the spine. The amount of force can vary, depending on patients' needs; in some cases, full force is not recommended such as Osteoporosis, in which case Newport Beach Chiropractor Dr. Gida Gilak either uses Activator or mobilization of the spine instead of grade 4 spine manipulation. Spine manipulation restores joint function and improves the biomechanics of the spine.
In those cases, spinal mobilization is different from manipulation and doesn't involve a thrust is performed.
In a study by National Health Institutes in 2012, spine manipulation was one of the most common complementary health approaches used by adults and children in the U.S. In this study, 43% used manipulation for general wellness or disease prevention.
Soft Tissue Therapy
What sets us apart from other Newport Beach Chiropractors? We use various soft tissue techniques such as the Active Release soft tissue technique, cupping, and Fascia mobilization.
Soft tissue ( Ligaments, Tendon and joint capsules, muscles) injuries can be very debilitating and hard to heal. Soft tissue injuries result in inflammation and swelling; the body responds to this inflammation by laying down scar tissue (cross fibers on the tissue) to stabilize the affected area. However, the side effect is that scar tissue decreases the joint range of motion, alters the biomechanics of the joint, and as a result, the function alters; if untreated, it changes the structure. Dr.Gilak is one of the chiropractors in Newport Beach who has been practicing ART for 15 years. Myofascial release and trigger points are common cause of low back pain, many low back pain patients suffer from residual myofascial pain that can be resolved with soft tissue therapy. Trigger points are mainly identified by palpation and can easily be treated by soft tissue mobilizations.
Dr. Gilak, chiropractor in Newport Beach, held certification and specialized in Kinesio Taping. In addition, traditional Chiropractic modalities, she uses a variety of muscle re-education techniques such as Kinesio Taping to expedite the healing process and prevent future injuries.
Kinesiotaping is a rehabilitative taping technique designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion. Tissue re-education prolongs the benefits of manual therapy. Kinesio Tape is a latex-free wearable tape that can last for up to 7 days and treat various orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological conditions. Kinesio tape is an excellent addition to rehabilitation.
